Circulating Collections

The Collection maintains two groups of instruments for the use of students on campus. One of these, whose object numbers are prefixed “CC” is comprised of instruments owned by the Collection; the other, whose object numbers are prefixed “YSM’ is comprised of instruments owned by the Yale School of Music.

Qualified students may borrow these instruments for specified periods free of charge. All such loans must be approved by a Yale music faculty member and the Director of the Collection.  Students engaged in the programmatic performance activity of the Yale School of Music will be given priority in the use of these instruments, but undergraduates and non-YSM graduate students may also request their use.
Procedure for borrowing an instrument:

1. Identify the instrument you wish to borrow on the Checklist of Circulating Instruments.

2.  To initiate your request, please read the Loan Agreement policies and submit the Loan Agreement form requesting the approval of the loan from a) a member of the Yale music faculty and b) the Director of the Collection.
